Pokémon TCG Pocket breaks records: $1.25 billion in revenue in its first year 🎉

Exactly one year after its global launch, Pokémon TCG Pocket is celebrating a massive success. The mobile version of the popular Trading Card Game has achieved impressive results—to say the least.

In an anniversary video, The Pokémon Company shared the following statistics:

• 📦 18 billion booster packs opened

• 🃏 111.7 billion cards collected

• 🔁 96 million trades executed (this feature was added four months after release)

• ⚔️ 12 billion battles played

• 🌟 490 million showcases created

• ❤️ 6 billion likes sent

• 📲 150 million downloads worldwide

This means that players in Pokémon TCG Pocket have collected ten times more cards than the physical Pokémon TCG cards that were ever printed in a single year. Of course, that's not a fair comparison, because in the app you receive two free boosters every day, straight from your phone.

Impact on the physical Pokémon card market

For comparison, physical Pokémon TCG print production peaked between March 2022 and 2023 at 11.9 billion cards , followed by 10.2 billion the following year. That last figure predates the current Pokémon card scarcity. which began in the fall of 2024.

Market data clearly shows that the launch of the Pokémon TCG Pocket fueled demand for physical cards. Shortly after release, card prices began to rise on platforms like TCGplayer—a trend still felt by collectors.

More profit than Pokémon GO

According to figures from AppMagic, Pokémon TCG Pocket generated $1.25 billion in revenue in its first year — that's $245 million more than Pokémon GO made in its first year.

While player monthly spending has dropped slightly since then, Pocket still earns more per month than Pokémon GO (which averages around $30 million per month).

With the recent launch of Mega Rising , which features Mega Evolutions , it looks like the Pokémon TCG Pocket hype isn't going to die down any time soon.
