Magic: The Gathering Star Trek at a glance

  • Release: 13 November 2026
  • Set codes: TRK (main set), TRC (Commander) and SDS (Stardates cards)
  • Theme: sixty years of Star Trek, with characters, ships and planets from almost every series and film
  • Products: Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, a Bundle, the Beam Me Up Bundle, Scene Boxes and four Commander decks

New mechanics: from transporters to moral choices

Wizards set out to capture classic Star Trek moments in game rules. These are the main ones:

  • Beam me up: a new keyword that lets you cast certain instants and sorceries again from your graveyard. As part of the cost you return a creature you control to your hand, as if you were beaming the away team back up. The spell is always exiled afterwards.
  • Face a dilemma: you face a dilemma whenever you choose one or more modes of a modal spell or ability (“Choose one” and similar). Some cards reward you for the number of dilemmas you faced that turn.
  • Federation: these abilities count the creature types among your non-Borg creatures. The more diverse your crew, the stronger the effect.
  • Strange new worlds: counts the differently named lands you control, so explorers are rewarded.
  • Spacecraft and station: starships return. They start out as artifacts and only become creatures once you commit enough crew members through station.

The Commander decks add mechanics such as assimilate, which lets the Borg take over opposing creatures.

Special cards for collectors

This set is especially interesting for collectors, because it contains several special card versions.

Signed headliner cards

The highlight is the seven signed headliner cards. Each card is hand-signed by the actor who plays the character, including Captain James T. Kirk, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Captain Kathryn Janeway, Lieutenant Commander Data and Seven of Nine. Fewer than 250 copies of each signed card exist, randomly inserted into Collector Boosters.

LCARS cards and shock lands

The LCARS frame is based on the Enterprise’s on-board computer screens. Besides LCARS versions of characters, the shock lands also appear in this frame, each showing a planet from Star Trek.

Stardates, Classic Enterprise and Klingon cards

  • Stardates: 30 borderless reprints of well-known Magic cards, reimagined in the Star Trek universe. Examples include Kenrith, the Returned King, Bristly Bill, Spine Sower and Minamo, School at Water’s Edge.
  • Classic Enterprise: cards in the style of vintage Star Trek film posters.
  • Klingon frame and Klingon script: cards with a Klingon frame, plus a version written entirely in the Klingon language. The Klingon script versions are only found in Collector Boosters.

The four Star Trek Commander decks

Four ready-to-play 100-card Commander decks are coming, each with a foil borderless commander and a deck box:

  • Federation Fleet
  • Landing Party
  • Klingon Fury: led by Worf
  • We Are the Borg: led by the Borg Queen

The other two decks are led by Picard and Spock. Each deck also gets a Collector’s Edition.

Which products are coming?

Besides Play Boosters and Collector Boosters there is a regular Bundle and the Beam Me Up Bundle. It contains 8 Play Boosters, 1 Collector Booster and 2 of 8 promo cards that show starships as technical schematics. There are also two Scene Boxes, each with 6 foil scene cards that together form one large scene.

Our take on the Star Trek set

Liam from RubyGator: “I’m not a big Star Trek fan myself. The series was mostly popular before I was born or when I was very young. But I’m always a fan of sets that bring nostalgia back.”

Most RubyGator customers are Pokémon lovers. We occasionally stock Magic: The Gathering, but we can’t guarantee that the Star Trek expansion will be part of it.

How to protect your Star Trek cards

You don’t pull a signed card, a surge foil or a Klingon script version every day. Liam’s tip is simple: “Always sleeve them up!” For your best pulls, a toploader or an acrylic case is the safest next step.
